Psalm 119: 135b | Teach Me Thy Statutes

David is a servant of God. David is an inspirational personality. God spoke through him. God revealed himself through him. God spoke directly to David. God the Holy Spirit wrote the word of God through David. David heard the laws and commands of God. David wrote the laws of God.

In this passage, David is thirsty, he says, “O Lord, teach me thy statutes, laws and commands. O Lord, as the deer is thirsty for the water in the same manner my soul is thirsty for you.”

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God

Psalm 42:1

My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:

Psalm 42:2a

What kind of longing is this? What kind of thirst is this?

As you quench this thirst, in the same manner it increases.

David is the person who committed two major sins. He true-heartedly confessed those sins and asked forgiveness.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

 Psalm 51:1

Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

Psalm 51:2

For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

Psalm 51:3

Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

Psalm 51:4

God said about David, this is a person after my own heart.

The LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people.

1Samuel 13:14

David truly loved the Lord and God never forsook him.

Teach me thy laws. What type of thirst, hunger, desire or appetite did David have? He had a deep desire to learn the true, perfect, unchangeable, inerrant laws and commands of God.

Is this the desire of your heart? Are you content or satisfied or are you stagnant—you do not want to move from your place?

It is very essential and fundamental that you must develop a deep desire; you must be passionate, and you must struggle to acquire this hunger and appetite. You must learn the laws of God.

In this present age, from whom can you learn these laws?

How can you learn?

Where can you learn?

When should you learn?

Why should you learn?

Who will teach you these laws?

Think about it.

Be blessed.
