Psalm 127:4 | Children Are Like Arrows

As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Psalm 127:4

Children are like arrows Bible explains:

The children of our youth are as a strong man has arrows in his hand. By this I mean the children who are born to us when we are young. David describes children as similar to arrows.

Why does he talk about arrows?

David was a military man. He fought many wars against his enemies and certainly won many wars. He knew how the arrow is crafted and shaped and how to use it and how it can be best used against the enemy. He knew what results he could achieve and what results he had achieved in the past. That is why he is talking about children of youth that children are like arrows in the soldier hand.

Let us briefly examine how children are like arrows in soldier hand.

  1. An arrow needs to be prepared. Arrows are not automatically made.
  2. It takes a lot of time to prepare an arrow. In the same manner, the training and discipline of our children demands a lot of time and concentration. We do not expect and we should not expect that our children will be automatically well-equipped and trained.
  3. It is hard work. You cannot achieve anything without hard work.

Arrows need to be sharpened.

-Arrows are used to attack the enemy.

-Arrows are pointed to a specific target.

-Preparation of an arrow requires concentration.

-An arrow must be shot with specific timing to hit the target.

-There must be precision.

-There must be accuracy.

-Arrows are made of wood and iron.

-Some arrows are made of pure iron.

-The arrow must go through fire and heat.

In the same manner, we have to train, equip, discipline, nourish and nurture our children so that they can be best used against all schemes, plans, tactics and strategies of our adversary.

We must give our children our time and energy. We must show our love, care, concern, compassion and companionship to make our children as strong as arrows.

We must be good steward of our children. We must remember that we are accountable before God with what He has entrusted to us.

We must be a role model for our children as children are like arrows in soldier hand.

Amen.
