For your maker is your husband, the Lord Almighty is his name
Isaiah 54:5
In this verse God says to Israel, “I am your husband.” God is depicting Himself to his people, His nation Israel, as a husband. He repeats that description in the New Testament to the believer as an individual, to His body, the church; and to the Church at large, the invisible church; the world wide body.
I am your husband. I am your Lord, King and Master. I am your husband.
I demand total submission.
God wants our voluntary submission, the submission that comes out of joy. The submission which is not slavery. The submission which comes from the depths of our heart. A submission which grants us to move in close to God and receive complete protection.
I demand honesty in all relationship.
As a husband, God wants honesty and openness from the believer. A husband is happy with a wife who is open, transparent to him. Not the reserved wife, one who hides something from her husband. God is looking for openness and honesty from His people. Are we, as believers, really open and honest with our heavenly husband and bride groom?
I demand your total faithfulness.
God is looking for a faithful wife. He hates an unfaithful wife, an unfaithful believer. He says “…be holy as I am holy.” He is looking for holy vessels which he can use for His Glory and honor.
But like the woman who is unfaithful to her husband… “so you have been unfaithful to Me, O house of Israel,” declares the Lord.
Some believers are not true to their heavenly husband (Jeremiah 3:20).
Are you in total submission to your heavenly bridegroom?
Are you honest in your relationship with your heavenly bridegroom?
Are you totally faithful to your heavenly bridegroom?
May the Lord help us to be so!
