Search me, O God

Psalm 139:23, 24

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.”

Psalm 139:23 KJV

“And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Psalm 139:24 KJV

David was a Shepherd boy.

He was the Shepherd of the nation of Israel.

He was a king.

He was a Warrior.

He was a Prophet.

There were other people who wrote the Psalms as well.

Moses wrote some of the Psalms.

David wrote most of the Psalms.

He was a poet.

He was a Musician.

There are total 150 Psalms.

The Book of Psalms was written in 1000 BC.

David fought many fights.

He won many fights.

He was very capable and successful Military General in his time.

He had many success stories.

He faced many failures as well.

He committed the sin of adultery and murder.

But God loved him and said this is the man who is after my own heart.

Because he made a bold confession.

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.”

Psalm 51:1 KJV

“Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”

Psalm 51:2 KJV

“For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.”

Psalm 51:3 KJV

“Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.”

Psalm 51:4 KJV

Asking God to Search your Heart

David said to the Lord:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:”

It is a Personal Prayer of David.

He was bold and brave.

He had Confidence in his God.

He had a Personal Contact with God.

Personal Relationship.

A living Relationship.

A Strong Relationship.

It is an honest Prayer

He was not frightened or afraid to come before God.

“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”

Psalm 42:1 KJV

“My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come, and appear before God?”

Psalm 42:2 KJV

“Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.”

Psalm 26:2 KJV

His relationship is Transparent.

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.”

Rev 3:14 KJV

“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.”

Rev 3:15 KJV

“So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”

Rev 3:16 KJV

“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:”

Rev 3:17 KJV

“I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”

Rev 3:18 KJV

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”

Rev 3:19 KJV

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Rev 3:20 KJV

“But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.”

Psalm 4:3 KJV

Holiness

What does holiness mean?

Separated for God.

Separated from Sin.

Separated from the world.

Separated to serve God.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Heb 4:12 KJV

“Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”

Heb 4:13 KJV

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:”

2Co 10:3 KJV

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.”

2Co 10:4 KJV

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, andbringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

2Co 10:5 KJV

We cannot show our thoughts to other people.

We cannot put our thoughts on the table.

The thoughts are in our mind

The thoughts are immaterial.

The thoughts are intangible.

We can have positive thoughts.

We can have negative thoughts.

We can reach anywhere with the help of our thoughts.

Our thoughts travel faster than the speed of light.

The Tragic story of Samson

“And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death.”

Jdg 16:16 KJV

“That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, there hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.”

Jdg 16:17 KJV

“And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand”.

Jdg 16:18 KJV

“And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.”

Jdg 16:19 KJV

“And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.”

Jdg 16:20 KJV

Samson was a strong man.

God promised to his parents that they will have a son, prior to his birth:

Search me O God.

He was separated for God.

He was separated to serve God.

He was supposed to be separated from the world.

He was supposed to be separated from sin.

But he made a compromise with the world.

He fell in love with Delilah.

Delilah was successful in getting his head shaved.

His head was shaved.

He thought he was still strong.

He was the man who killed the lion.

He killed 30 men.

He killed 1000 men with the jaw of a donkey.

He carried the heavy gate of the city and carried it to several miles on his shoulders.

“And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.”

Jdg 16:3 KJV

He was the strongest man on the face of the earth.

His head was shaved; the seven locks of his head were shaved off.

He woke up.

He shook himself; he thought that still the strength and power of the Lord was with him.

He did not know that Lord has departed from him.

What a tragic end?

Outwardly he was the same but inwardly, the Lord of hosts, the Almighty God, left him.

There are many believers, Church leaders, Evangelists, Priests, Pastors, heads of Christian organizations who serve the Lord.  They do good preaching.

Inwardly, they do not know that the Lord has left them.

There is no power.

No intimate relationship with the Lord.

No zeal.

No fire for the Lord.

No tears for the lost.

David said,

“Search me O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:”

Psalm 139:23 KJV

“And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Psalm 139:24 KJV

Search me oh Lord, search my thoughts, my heart, my intentions and my attitude.

That I may please you totally.

Search me O Lord!

Where do I stand in the sight of God?

Where do you stand in the sight of God?

God bless you.
